The climate in this region of Alanya is hot and humid during the long summer months and mild and temperate during the short winter months. Occasionally, there are storms and some rain from November through to February, but it never lasts long, and the sun always peeps through the clouds.
Due to its amazing location, Oba has many beautiful beaches, mainly shingle, with some areas having softer, yellow sand. There are numerous beach bars, all offering snack food and sunbeds, which you can hire for the day. Where entry into the sea was once rocky, many of the beach clubs have cleared the entry point so that it is suitable for families with children to swim. There are numerous five-star hotels along this strip of the coastline, and they have installed piers with bars and terraces to sunbathe, on which you can also enter by hiring sunbeds. The beaches are clean, with many having the coveted Blue flag status. If you enjoy thrill-seeking activities, try one of the many water sports stations that offer jet ski, water skiing, banana boats, etc.
Oba has a very well-established community of ex-pats living alongside many Turkish families, giving this area a real multi-cultural vibe. This is reflected in the range of shops, bars and restaurants here. Many feature European dishes intermingled with Turkish fare and range from cute, little boutique-style restaurants to high-end cuisine. Many restaurants have live music in the summer months, and because many people have chosen to settle permanently, this continues through the winter months. Oba is lively and fun, but there are quieter areas that attract those looking to reside amongst families.
Oba's transport links are well-developed, with the D400 linking all the main towns along this coast. There are many buses, taxis and car hire companies available to take you to and from either of the airports. This region is famed for its outstanding historical sites such as Syedra, Anamur and Side. The castle, which is on the peninsula in Alanya, is stunning and can be reached by taxi or bus. On the Damlatas side, a cable car takes you to the top.
If you don't love archaeology, then the mountains around here can provide many sporting activities for you to try:
- Jeep safari
- Hiking
- Gorge walking
- Canyoning
- Tandem parachuting
